This summer Lafayette’s Grossman Gallery features DOMESTICA, an exhibition of six Pennsylvania artists who exemplify the breadth of artistic talent across the state. These artists—Amze Emmons (Philadelphia), William Hudders (Easton), Dee Jenkins (Harrisburg), Elizabeth Johnson (Easton), David Nicholas (Bethlehem) and Kim Malm Thomas (Harleysville)—address their local surroundings to create a vastly diverse group of works.

Subjects range from Hudder’s beautiful yet banal subjects of white button-down shirts to Nicholas’s hypertorqued record of Superstorm Sandy. Thomas uses sewing—a craft associated with domesticity—and Jenkins retrieves materials that seem to come from the deep recesses of her cupboards and drawers; both artists have created beautiful and poignant works. Emmons surgically cuts and pastes images that allow us to reconsider our relationship to the displaced. Johnson alters our perceptions of how we move through and record our everyday surroundings.

July 12 through August 16, with a reception for the artists on Saturday, July 12, from 5:00–7:00 pm. Williams Visual Arts Building, 243 North 3rd Street, Easton, PA 18042.
