Goodman Collection photographs of the Alcatraz Island occupation from November 1969 to June 1971 by the activist group Indians of All Tribes capture moments during this historic event. The viewers are asked to reconsider the status of Indigenous communities against the backdrop of broken promises, breached contracts, and continued colonization as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
In March 1964, the first wave of American Indian activists arrived on Alcatraz to attempt to reclaim the island.
