Chakaia Booker: Energy Made Visible, 2010

One of the most significant sculptors of our age, Chakaia Booker has employed discarded tires as her primary medium since the early 1990s. Through slicing, twisting, and weaving tire fragments, Booker creates sculptures of great energy and complexity. These works embody Booker’s creative vitality and provide powerful commentaries on issues of identity, class, gender, recycling, and ecology.
