Renowned artist Louis Comfort Tiffany—best known for stained glass windows and lamps—his fiancé Louise Knox and friends took a two-week cruise on the Delaware and Lehigh Canals from Bristol to Mauch Chunk and back.
On Sunday, June 12, National Canal Museum archivist, Martha Capwell Fox, narrates a 2-hour dinner cruise on the Lehigh Canal that recalls the famous June 1886 voyage of the “Chunker,” a converted canal scow, pulled by mules Molly and Polly. A lengthy diary illustrated with photographs from the trip provides a historical background for the evening.
Musician Dave Matsinko will play period music and Culinary Experts of Allentown will provide a dinner developed from diary menus. The canal barge Josiah White will be pulled by mules George and Hank.
Deadline to register for the dinner cruise is Friday, June 10. Additional information can be found at the National Canal Museum or by contacting Loretta Susen at loretta@delawareandlehigh.org or 610-923-3548 x221
