March 22 – April 23
Richard W. and Rissa W. Grossman Visiting Artist, 2011
The paintings, drawings and prints of Terry Winters (born 1949) are among the most sophisticated and interesting works of the late modern period. Since the 1980s, Winters has been concerned simultaneously with art as personal mark-making and as metaphor for nature’s hidden organizing structures. His recent works the “Inflection, Vector” drawing series and the “Filters in Stock” painting series, both 2009, are featured in this exhibition. These works suggest Winters’ deep interest in such ideas as Non-Euclidean space, fractals, topology, and computer modeling. In them, the artist bends, distorts, and interrupts space in manners that mirror the fluidity and complexity of modern knowledge.
